The water and fiber packed fruit Chloe Sevigny loves is a weight-loss power-house. Says dietitian Keri Glassman, “Research shows that people who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost more than 3 pounds in 12 weeks.”
Katy Perry’s morning meal of scrambled eggs is a smart start. the vitamin B12 in eggs helps boost metabolism and burn fat. Plus, the protein leaves you satisfied, says Glassman, author of Slim Calm Sexy Diet, “so you eat fewer calories in the day.”
- Chili Peppers
Follow the lead of Lindsay Price, who craves spicy food, and add some cayenne to soup or hummus. The capsaicin found in chili peppers sparks your metabolism “and increase the number of calories you burn,” says Glassman.
Padma Lakshmi tells Us she eats nonfat yoghurt (with fruit) because “it’s filling and good for you.” In one University of Tennessee study, obese adults who consumed 24 ounces of fat-free yogurt per day as part of a low-cal diet shed 81 percent more belly fat.
Ditch a heavy side in favor of the greens Jaime Pressly prefers. The leaves (7 calories per uncooked cup) are packed with folate, which can help lower levels of cortisol-a.k.a. the stress hormone-in your body. Explains Glassman, “Cortisol makes you hold weight in your midsection.”
- Dark Chocolate
Studies have shown that replacing saturated fat with replacing saturated fat with heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, found in olive oil, avocado and Miranda Kerr’s favorite indulgence, “can help you lose stomach weight,” says Glassman. Enjoy in moderation: The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 25 to 35 percent of daily calories come from fat, no matter the source.
When she’s craving sugar, Maria Menounos tells Us, she turns to raspberries. “They’re loaded with fiber,” says Glassman. “They also prevent insulin spikes, which keeps you from wanting more sweets.” That’s berry appealing!
